As you may be aware, J.K. Rowling has recently come out and said some hurtful things about trans people, making several uninformed and unfair statements in a long essay that seeks to divide people rather than bringing them together. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I will always support the rights of minority groups – the rights of everyone in fact. Trans women are women and trans men are men.
I wasn’t sure whether I was going to continue to engage in her work after what’s happened, wondering if the Harry Potter world would be tainted by the beliefs she’s recently espoused. But, for me, Harry Potter has always been a place of solace, and writing this fanfiction has acted as a kind of therapy for me. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, thankfully, have come out in support of the trans community and have offered some light in this dark time.
I hope that you can still take enjoyment from the Wizarding World. Do know that in my Harry Potter universe, everyone is welcome and everyone is loved.
